SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR SYRIAN STUDENTS IN EXILE IN FRANCE

This scholarship program is specifically dedicated to Syrian students exiled in France and enrolled in French higher education institutions.

The call for applications for the academic year 2020/2021 is underway.

The deadline for application is JUNE 26, 2020.

Within the framework of the specific aid provided to Syrian refugees, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has set up a scholarship program for Syrian students enrolled in a French higher education institution.

This scholarship program aims at financing the studies of Syrian students enrolled for the academic year 2020-2021 for a maximum duration of 2 years.

The fields of study concerned by this program are :

sciences in the broad sense (engineering sciences; exact sciences: agronomy, mathematics, physics, chemistry and life sciences, nano and biotechnologies, earth and environmental sciences, information and communication sciences, and technologies);

  • economics and management ;
  • law and political science;
  • human and social sciences;
  • architecture and urban planning ;
  • art.

Duration of the scholarship

The scholarship is awarded for a period of 12 to 24 months maximum:

12 months for direct enrolment in M2
24 months maximum for a direct enrolment in M1

The scholarship will take effect at the start of the 2020 academic year.

Program benefits

For the grantee:

  • Social protection: reimbursement of the mutual insurance company up to 264 € per year ;
  • Monthly allowance of 700 €;
  • Help in finding a CROUS housing;
  • Semi-annual educational follow-up by Campus France in February and June of each year;
    Exemption from the payment of registration fees related to the preparation of a national diploma or the title of graduate engineer, in public institutions under the authority of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation;
  • Exemption from the payment of Student Life and Campus Contribution (CVEC) fees;

For the host institution:

Payment to the host institution of a lump sum of €1,000 per year and scholarship holder.

This sum must enable the institution to designate a single contact person responsible for providing Campus France with information on the progress of the scholarship holder’s studies and for assisting the institution in resolving any administrative problems that may be encountered. This sum is paid to the institution by Campus France upon presentation of an invoice.

 

WHO CAN APPLY?

Nationality and residence permit: Applicants must be of Syrian nationality exclusively and must hold a residence permit or be in the process of obtaining one. In case of equal candidacy, priority will be given to students benefiting from refugee status or subsidiary protection.

Age: Priority will be given to candidates born after September 1, 1992, for equal applications.

Courses concerned: Candidates for the 2020/2021 component of this scholarship program must be enrolled at the beginning of the 2020 academic year in a Master’s degree program (M1 or M2) at a French higher education institution.

The language level will be the one required by the institution where the student will follow his course.

Good to know:

Students already receiving a scholarship under another program at the time of application are not eligible. This includes students holding a scholarship from the French government, a scholarship based on social criteria from the CROUS, a European scholarship, a scholarship from the Syrian government or any other Syrian institution, a scholarship granted by local authorities, private foundations, etc.

HOW TO APPLY?

Applications should be sent electronically to candidaturesyrie@campusfrance.org. Only applications sent by email will be accepted. Any application sent by mail or submitted to Campus France will be refused.

List of documents to be attached to your application file

  • Application form,
  • Proof of academic background (bachelor’s degree, transcripts, and diplomas obtained),
  • Letter of motivation,
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Copy of the residence permit,
  • RIB,
  • If applicable, letter(s) of acceptance in a course for the year 2020/2021.

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?

The selection of applications is made by a selection committee chaired by the Ambassador for Syria and including representatives of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Campus France, and conferences of institutions.

The selection criteria are as follows:

  • The candidate’s academic level, as shown by his or her previous academic background ;
  • The quality and relevance of the candidate’s personal and professional project;
  • Priority will be given to students with a study and/or professional project in strategic fields for Syria of tomorrow;
  • Priority will be given to Syrian students with refugee status or subsidiary protection and/or born after September 1, 1992;
  • In the case of equal candidacy, parity will be respected.

Timetable :

  • Deadline for receipt of applications by Campus France: Friday, June 26, 2020.
  • Selection Committee: early July 2020
  • Distribution of the list of selected students: end of July / beginning of August 2020
  • Start date: September 2020

The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has entrusted the management of this program to Campus France.
