D.A.E.U. the way to universities without the baccalauréat

You wish to resume your studies, and you don’t have the baccalaureat?

The D.A.E.U. is intended for people who have interrupted their studies without having the baccalauréat and who want to :

resume higher education (particularly at university) with a view to promotion or return to employment

acquire a diploma allowing them to pass administrative exams requiring the baccalaureate degree

obtain a diploma attesting to their level of general knowledge

How it works

The D.A.E.U. offers two options, each with a minimum of 4 subjects (2 compulsory and 2 optional) corresponding to a minimum of 225 hours of teaching. The subjects depend on the option chosen.

D.A.E.U. option A: literary, legal, etc.

Compulsory subjects :

French (basic knowledge of French literature and civilization)

modern languages

Optional subjects may differ depending on the university: history, geography, mathematics, etc.

U.S.A.D. Option B: Science

Compulsory subjects:

French (argumentative text, written comprehension, a summary of a text, discussion)

Mathematics

Optional subjects may differ from one university to another: modern language, physics, chemistry, natural and life sciences, etc.

Exam

The modules of the D.A.E.U. are capitalizable. The diploma can be obtained in several years (4 consecutive years maximum). Two formulas are possible:

global: the exam is obtained with an overall average of 10 minimum.

test by test: you must obtain 10 in each test

Some universities offer to obtain the D.A.E.U. by validation of acquired experience (V.A.E.) or distance learning.

Conditions of registration

Have interrupted his or her initial studies for at least two years and

Satisfy one of the following conditions:

• Be at least 20 years old on October 1 of the year of the examination and provide proof of two years of salaried professional activity or an activity that has given rise to two years of social security contributions (periods of unemployment with registration in Pôle Emploi(Unemployment Agency), education of a child, national service, participation in a vocational education program, exercise of a high-level sports activity, etc.).
• Be 24 years of age or older on October 1 of the year of the exam
• For foreign applicants, a residence permit valid on October 31 of the year of the exam is required.

Disabled candidates may request a waiver of all or part of the examination requirements.
